Dear Alamos Families,
It is hard to believe that the first official day of Fall is behind us and Parent-Teacher conferences are just days ahead of us! I hope you and your family are enjoying the subtle changes of this beautiful Fall season. Thank you to all of our grandparents who joined us for a Superhero luncheon last Friday. It was delightful to watch our students enjoying time with their families at school!
Teacher conference week for students in PreK - 5th grade is rapidly approaching! Mark your calendar for the week of Oct 14th-18th. The entire week is modified dismissal. All of our Pre-schoolers and Kinders attend school in the morning. As you know, the partnership between home and school is an important one and your attendance at a parent-teacher conference, SST or IEP meeting sends a powerful message to your child. The opportunity to have an in depth, face to face conversation about your child’s academic, social and behavioral achievement at school sets the stage for future success. I know schedules can be crazy and plates can be very full but our staff will do our very best to accommodate your schedule. Once a meeting date and time has been confirmed, AES prepares for your arrival. We may hire substitute teachers to cover classes so your child’s teacher may attend, we reserve a meeting room, and our team members reserve time in their busy day just for you. As you can imagine, scheduling a school meeting is no easy task! If you cannot attend or need to reschedule a meeting (we know life happens), please inform the school office as soon as possible so that we may have the time to adjust our time and resources. We so appreciate your support!
As I shared with you at Back to School Night, one of our most important priorities this year is the social and emotional well being of our students and staff. It is our belief that Happy Teachers Change the World because they are the catalyst for creating teaching environments that enrich the lives of the next generation! Certainly, we want to teach students how to proficiently read, write and calculate, but we also want to teach students Happiness and Joy and to Be Mindful of what their brain is thinking, what their body is doing and how their heart is feeling. Together our school community is committed to creating and cultivating a relationship rich environment that intentionally and compassionately develops the whole child…heart, mind, and body.
We are proud to welcome Tina Marks, our new Social Worker and Behavior Specialist. Tina comes to us with a wealth of experience from various school districts in the Los Angeles area, She will be leading our social-emotional learning team and is excited to partner with AES families to help support the various needs of our young people. Tina will be on campus on Mondays, Tuesdays, and every other Wednesdays. Please feel free to reach out to her if you should have any questions concerning the social, emotional, behavioral well being of students.
AES will host Live Literature Day on Thursday, October 31st. Students and staff are encouraged to “dress up” as their favorite literary character. Students must bring the book their character is from to school on the 31st. Students may not wear masks or bring any kind of prop or accessory representing a weapon of any kind (sword, knife, etc.). We are excited to bring literature to life but please be sure your child’s choice of dress-up allows them to easily and safely participate in regular school activities such as recess or physical education.
It is a privilege to serve this community as Principal. I wish you and your family a Boo-tiful month of October. Happy Fall Y'all!
Mrs. Jenniffer Aynesworth, Principal
