The California Green Ribbon Schools recognition award honors schools, school districts, and Institutes of Higher Education for excellence in resource efficiency, health, and wellness, and environmental and sustainability education. The recognition award is part of a larger effort to identify and communicate practices that result in improved student engagement, academic achievement, graduation rates, and workforce preparedness; and reinforces federal efforts to increase energy independence and economic security.
Paloma Elementary School received a Silver level award. Paloma joins Rancho Vista High and Barnett Elementary in the 2017/2018 school year as TVUSD's three schools to be honored with this award!
Paloma Elementary's Principal Kelly Gradstein had this to say about her sites big accomplishment:
"We are honored to have been recognized for the Green Ribbon award. At Paloma, we pride ourselves on teaching our students to be great citizens. We want them to take pride in our school and work alongside us to make it the best place it can be. We want our students to make a difference at school and in the world. This award would not have been possible without the support and tremendous efforts of our Grounds, Facilities, and Maintenance teams. They have implemented green practices, helped us to conserve where we can and truly made this possible."
This is quite the accomplishment and one we hope to get more schools involved in, in the coming years!
