Math Curriculum and Design
Welcome to the K-12 Mathematics Curriculum and Design page. Our goal is to keep you informed about the curriculum and design process in K-12 Mathematics. Teacher representatives from each site meet once a semester to review standards and create common pacing guides, unit planning organizers, and assessments to guarantee equal access to a viable curriculum for all students.

Math Course Recommendations
The course scheduling process begins in the spring for the next academic year. For mathematics classes, TVUSD uses multiple objective data points to make a recommendation for a student's next course of study. These data points include the most recent data from CAASPP, the iReady Diagnostic, District Assessments, and Grades. To partner with parents, an initial letter is provided during the 6th grade year to indicate if students are recommended to take either Math 7 (click here for the letter) or Accelerated Math 7 (a combination of Math 7 and Math 8) (click here for the letter). If a student was recommended into Math 7 and the family would prefer a placement in Accelerated Math 7 please contact your counselor at the middle school site for information on the TVUSD Mathematics Waiver which can be filled out to change the math course selection. If a student was recommended into Accelerated Math 7 and the family would like to opt out and change the placement to Math 7, please contact the student's counselor and they will change the course selection. If a family would like to utilize either the waiver process or the opt out process, please contact your counselor within a month of the distribution of the letter so that scheduling and staffing decisions for the next school year can be made.
All course pathways listed on the TVUSD Math Pathway documents are college preparatory in nature, and meet the minimum requirement for CSU/UC admission.
As an example, the criteria for recommendation for Accelerated Math 7 are below.
Students Need to Meet Criteria #1-3 in addition to either #4 or #5:
1. Student has a score of 3 or higher on their most recent CAASPP *
2. Student has an on or above grade level score for their iReady Diagnostic in Number and Operations*
3. Student has an on or above grade level score in their iReady Diagnostic in Algebra & Algebraic Thinking*
4. Student has a score of 90% or above on the fall district performance task
5. Student had an 85% or better for their first semester grade in Math 6
*Indicates a requirement for consideration
