Cyber Security Club at Bella Vista

CyberSecurity is a Club on at Bella Vista Middle School where students learn about computer operating systems, network structure, and online cyber security. This is an entirely volunteer student driven club. Students always start from ground zero with no knowledge of computers and work their way up from basic, intermediate to advanced based on their level of interest.  We start with Windows Client and progress into Windows Server then Linux Based Operating Systems and finally Kali Linux and it's tools. 

Competitions are students favorite thing to participate in.  The two main competitions that we take part in are the CyberPatriot Program and the SoCal Cyber Cup Challenge.

Camaraderie is another valuable part of our club. Students build relationships and learn to work as a team to support each other and grow. Students that participate in this club gain valuable experience that is also present in most all other team sports programs.

Our Club first began in the 2018-2019 school year.  The students progressed to the State Round of the CyberPatriot and placed 7th in the Finals of the SoCal Cyber Cup. We were very proud to have been one of only a few schools in all of Riverside or San Bernadino (Inland Empire) to have our school participate in these CyberSecurity competitions.

The 2019-2020 school brought in not only the growth to having 3 full teams but it is our first year of having enough students that one CyberPatriot team was an entirely girls team which allowed their competition fee to be waived for CyberPatriot. The challenges of the online environment diminsed the team size to 1 in 2020-2021. However, for the third year ina  row we once again have a team that is advancing to the Finals Round for the SoCal Cyber Cup Challenge.
