Mrs. Andrea Thomas

I have been teaching for 17 years, five years as a second grade teacher, six years as a K-5 SDC teacher, one year as a RSP teacher, and my most recent experience has been as a Preschool SDC teacher for the past 5 years. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development & Education, a Master’s Degree in Special Education and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership. I recently earned my ELL Authorization through UCSD.

I love educating young children! I was so lucky to have wonderful elementary school teachers in my younger years. I developed a strong passion for learning and changing the world around me. I always felt safe and cared for at school, and it made me want to do the same for children. I believe in individualizing instruction for each student. Every child is their own unique person and learns in their own way. Play is one of the most important aspects of learning for preschoolers. They can learn so much about the world around them, how to play nicely with others, and build their problem-solving skills. Play and manipulation of materials allow children to form the necessary foundations for building future skills.

On my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family.  I have been married to my husband for seven years and we have four dogs.  I also have three grown sons, ages 25, 26 and 28. My husband and I enjoy hiking, biking and travelling together. My personal hobbies include yoga, gardening and crafting.
